In the year 2012 an estimated 14.1 million incidences of cancer cases were recorded globally and at the time researchers projected that by the year 2035 the number will jump to 24 million cases, representing a 70% increase. Lung cancer was the most common type of cancer in 2012 making 13% of the total cases. One clear point that was observed by researchers was the link between lifestyle trends and the incidence of cancer worldwide. This just gives a picture on cancer but many other ‘lifestyle diseases’ have been on the increase in modern times and follow the same pattern.
Did you know that the Bible gives answers to the modern day ailments that are plaguing our society? When God created humans He intended them to be in full vigor of health and He provided the means to maintain that perfect state of health. Firstly, He gave them the best diet adapted to their needs. The Bible records, “And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.” Genesis 1:29. That was a purely plant diet, with all the nutriment they needed for the body. Largely, health experts today are finding out that most lifestyle diseases, including cancer, are linked to processed and artificial foods and are encouraging people to adopt a more plant-based diet. So by eating more of the natural foods; grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables, as opposed to processed foods, we can maintain the best health. Also, God never gave harmful substances like tobacco and alcohol for human consumption, and when we abstain from these we benefit the most.
Secondly, just after creating the world God gave us physical work to do. “…the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” Genesis 2:15. The first pair were to be occupied in manual labor and this aided in preserving good health. According to God’s plan, people have to physically active to be in best shape health wise. Again, experts today are promoting physical exercise to combat incidences of problems like obesity, high blood pressure and more. This includes finding time to walk, running, cycling and also doing physical labor like gardening, cutting wood and more. So stay active.
These are just some of the many wonderful principles that the Creator has given us to preserve good health and if we follow them we a sure to enjoy the best health here on earth.
